Former Punjab Assembly member Chaudhry Adnan, who recently lost in the PP-19 Rawalpindi elections, was fatally shot in Rawalpindi on Monday in a targeted attack.
Reports indicate that Chaudhry Adnan’s vehicle came under heavy gunfire near the Police Lines office in Rawalpindi Cantonment. As his car stopped at a traffic signal, unidentified assailants riding motorcycles opened fire on him. The fatal shot struck Chaudhry Adnan in the face, leading to his tragic death. His driver, Zaid Hafeez, was also injured during the attack. Police confirmed that Chaudhry Adnan was fatally shot, and his driver sustained serious injuries in the assault.
After the attack, Chaudhry Adnan’s body was transferred to DHQ Hospital for a post-mortem examination, while his injured driver was immediately admitted for treatment. However, Zaid Hafeez later succumbed to his injuries, deepening the tragedy. A spokesperson for the Rawalpindi police confirmed that the incident was being treated as a priority case. CPO Syed Khalid Hamdani quickly responded to the situation and instructed SP Pothohar to ensure the swift apprehension of the assailants.
Senior police officials launched a thorough investigation at the crime scene, collecting crucial evidence and working tirelessly to identify the perpetrators. Although initial findings suggest personal enmity as a possible motive, the police are leaving no stone unturned and exploring all possible angles, including any political motivations, previous conflicts, or disputes related to the recent elections.
Chaudhry Adnan had previously represented Rawalpindi’s PP-11 constituency under the PTI ticket in 2018. However, after severing ties with the party, he ran as an independent candidate in the recent general elections. His untimely death has left the community in shock, and there is growing pressure on law enforcement agencies to bring the responsible individuals to justice. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are hopeful that arrests will be made soon.
