The European Union (EU) has presented a comprehensive program titled “Improving Migration Management and Migrant Protection.” This innovative effort reaches out to a number of nearby countries, including Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, in addition to Pakistan.
The project was inaugurated in Islamabad by EU Ambassador Dr. Riina Kionka, who emphasized the EU’s constant dedication by contributing five million euros to support and maintain migrant resource centers throughout Pakistan.
These facilities, which are well situated in Islamabad, Lahore, and Peshawar, play a role in offering important guidance and counseling to both prospective migrants and returning nationals. This proactive approach is crucial for maintaining the safety and knowledge of the migrating process.
The International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), a European institution dedicated to resolving the multiple difficulties of international migration, is implementing the initiative.
ICMPD’s involvement has the potential to significantly raise public awareness of the inherent dangers of illegal migration and, more importantly, to strengthen measures to protect migrant safety. By doing this, the initiative aims to equip people, families, and communities with the information they need to make wise decisions about migration.
The EU is making a significant step toward a better, more secure future for migrants and their communities in Pakistan and elsewhere by addressing the underlying causes of irregular migration and offering comprehensive support. The project has the potential to change the migration landscape as it develops and, in the end, improve the lives of countless people who are looking for better possibilities and prospects.
